I was born in Redwood City, California, and raised in Sonoma County, mostly in the tiny town of Forestville, near the flood-prone Russian River. I was always reasonably quiet and literary. I wrote my first poem when I was 13 (it was half "found poem" and half original), and since then have written hundreds of poems, dozens of short stories, hundreds of music reviews and articles, and hundreds more news articles. I attended and graduated from El Molino High School, majored in journalism at the Santa Rosa Junior College, and earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of California at Berkeley. I have been a regular staffer at a number of school and professional newspapers, including The Lion's Roar, The Oak Leaf, The Daily Californian, The San Rafael-Terra Linda News Pointer, The Redwood City Daily News, and The Examiner. In addition, I have freelanced for The San Francisco Chronicle, Addicted to Noise, Bay Area Music, Bikini, ROCKRGRL, Mid-Atlantic Geomancy E-Zine, and Crescent. My poetry has been published in New Verse News, Bardsong and Lime Green Bulldozers. My chapbook, "Dream Brother," was published by Oyster Publications in 1999 and is now out of print. My years growing up in Sonoma County inspired a book, "Sacred Sonoma." After living in Forestville for many years I moved to Petaluma, where I became briefly fascinated with dilapidated barns. I have since lived in Oakland and San Rafael, and currently make my home in San Francisco. The mailing list will keep you abreast of my books and other writing projects as they are published. Those who want more insight into my works in progress and my writing process can visit my MySpace blog. In addition to working as a writer, I maintain the Sumerland Web site and am a contributor to Undented. |
